Universal experiences, by nature, remind us all that despite all of our superficial differences we really are more alike than we would sometimes like to believe. Men, for example, are all searching for similar answers to questions such as: relationship advice for men. Sometimes these experiences are life changing in their wonderfulness. These are the experiences that we all hope and dream of. For every wonderful experience, we can all remember one that was so outstanding in it’s crappiness that we thought we’d never recover.
In my experience, it’s those crappy experiences that make dating worthwhile.
That is why I think instead of putting so much stock in the dating process, everyone should relax a little bit. With so much focus on finding the person of your dreams so you can get married and have 2.5 children and a picket fence, it’s easy to forget one of the universal truths of dating: that it sucks.
I do believe that there is someone for everyone. I also believe that it will take a lot of dating to find that someone. That means a lot of bad dates. Instead of crying about bad dates, or being upset that it didn’t work out with someone, I think we need to re-evaluate. Bad dates are a good thing: its one more person to take out of the potential marriage pool. It’s another step towards your perfect partner.
So your date spent the entire night getting wasted on Jell-o shots. Or you spent an entire dinner sitting with a vegan who stared at you while you ate a delicious steak. Do these situations stink? Sure.
But everyone has been there. Instead of viewing every date as potential marriage, I say view them as a potential disaster. That way, if things go well, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If they don’t? Just another story to laugh about with your friends over a round of beer
